Research Area

The LBO focus its research on the musculo-skeletal field developing new solutions based on engineering or biological approaches. In particular, through the understanding of fundamental aspects of mechano-transduction, innovative solutions are proposed to control the tissue formation around implants. A mixed theoretical and experimental approach is followed in the development of orthopedic implant used as drug delivery system, in the incorporation of biomechanical principles to favor bone formation inside artificial scaffold or in the design of new orthopedic implant for shoulder, hip or knee joints. A strong emphasis is put to translate the results obtained in the laboratory to clinical applications by a close collaboration with surgeons of the CHUV and industrial partners.
