Space engineering domain at EPFL is interdisciplinary and wide spread throughout the different schools with a strong focus within the STI school.

IEM contributes to this effort under the coordination of the EPFL Space Center, that aims at fostering innovative projects in particular in the domain of sustainable space technologies from innovation studies, space debris risk governance and also development of technologies in the areas of materials, embedded system, computer vision, photonic, robotics and quantum physics.

IEM also contributes to the SKA project.

In addition, IEM contributes to provide ground work to enhance key trend topics such as Earth observation data analysis and Moon missions.
