Specialization in Materials Reseach and development

At the end of the first semester, you may choose whether you would like to pursue the Materials specialization or a minor. Both options correspond to 30 ECTS credits and are included in the Option group of the Master’s study plan.

The Materials Research and Development specialization is intended for students who wish to deepen their expertise in Materials Science and Engineering and develop a strong, focused profile within the field. It is particularly suited to students interested in research, innovation and materials development, or considering pursuing a PhD after their Master’s degree. By choosing the specialization, you can build on the knowledge acquired in the core MSE courses and explore advanced topics in greater depth, while developing a coherent and comprehensive materials-focused profile.

If you choose the Materials specialization, you will take courses within the Materials Science and Engineering Master’s program. You may also take up to 12 ECTS credits of courses from other EPFL programs, provided that these courses are included in the list of courses.

Courses from other programs that are not included in this list may also be considered, but they require prior approval from the Section. Please request approval before registering for the course. To request validation, send your request together with the course sheet to Dr Béatrice Marselli.
