Dynamics of Laminar Separation Bubbles on Airfoils and Wings 17.6.2026 – 14:00 > 15:00 Speaker Dr. Serhiy Yarusevych is a full professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He is directing the Fluid Mechanics Research Laboratory focused on multidisciplinary applications of fluid mechanics in engineering, including operation of lifting surfaces at low Reynolds numbers, flows over bluff bodies, free shear flows, flow induced vibrations and noise, and flow control. The associated research involves a combination of experimental, analytical, and numerical tools, with the main emphasis placed on experiments involving particle image velocimetry. His research in Canada was interposed by sabbatical leaves at TU Delft in the Netherlands (2013-2014; 2025-2026) and the University of Bundeswehr Munich in Germany (2019-2020), focusing on collaborative projects in aerodynamics and flow control. Dr. Yarusevych is an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, Mercator Fellow, and Associate Fellow of AIAA. Boundary interactions in rotorcraft and fish-inspired vehicles 22.6.2026 – 10:15 > 11:00 Speaker Dan Quinn is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Virginia. He received his PhD in 2015 from the Hydrodynamics Lab at Princeton University, where he studied the role of flexibility in rays and skates. While a graduate student, Quinn was also a Visiting Fellow at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. For his doctoral work, Professor Quinn was awarded the American Physical Society’s Andreas Acrivos Dissertation Award in Fluid Dynamics. He went on to be a Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University, studying the stability characteristics of birds flying in turbulent gusts. Collective fish swimming dynamics: insights from laboratory experiments 22.6.2026 – 11:00 > 11:45 Speaker Ramiro Godoy-Diana is a CNRS research scientist at the Physique et Mécanique des Milieux Hétérogènes laboratory (PMMH) at ESPCI Paris, France. Physical engineer from the Tec de Monterrey (México, 1994), he holds a Master in Physics from the UNAM (México, 1999) and a PhD in fluid dynamics from École Polytechnique (France, 2004). His experimental fluid dynamics work has included research on ocean wave energy, geophysical fluid dynamics, wake instabilities, transition to turbulence, fluid-structure interaction, and animal and bio-inspired swimming and flying. He co-leads the “Biomimetics and fluid-structure interaction (BIOMIM)” group at PMMH. He was coordinator of the fluid mechanics French-Argentinian International Research Project IRP-IVMF and is member of the Scientific Committee of the IRL IFADyFE. He was also member of the Section 10 (now section 12) of the Comité National de la Recherche Scientifique in France for the 2016-2020 period.
