Internet of Things (IoT) and Computer and Communication Engineering

General overview

This teaching program focuses on the technological support to the design and fabrication of computing and communication systems. Teaching activities in ICT touch upon the physical layer of communication systems, as well as algorithms and software (specifically in the DSP domain) and system integration issues.

The underlying communication technologies encompass optics and radiofrequency engineering. Activities in optics in EE are mainly focused on the physics of optical communication components and their applications to communication systems. Technologies involving fields and waves are taught through courses on microwave and propagation of electromagnetic & acoustic waves which prepares the student to areas like computational electromagnetics, the design and miniaturization of antennas and wireless sensors, satellite applications, or to domains with high societal impact, like efficient and effective control of environmental noise.

Another educational focal area is embedded system design with the objective of integrating algorithms and software on hardware platforms and performing extensive experimentation. This will allow our students to apprehend the rapidly growing domain of the Internet of Things (IoT).
